The Ontario Community Changemakers program seeks innovative mindsets from all backgrounds who want to make a difference in their communities through creative and unique ideas to activate public space, enhance civic engagement, and/or foster social inclusion—powered by 8 80 Cities with support from Balsm Foundation. Apply Now! This year the program will feature an in-person studio and ongoing virtual coaching and capacity building.  You can learn more about the Studio here.

Planning for the future, despite the "live in the present" trend that became more common during the pandemic, is something we all should keep in mind. When we age, some of us would love to retire in a villa in Spain or dedicate time to travelling the world. But, some others will choose to age in place, which means adapting their environment and thinking about things like having a care and support team. In this article, Cris Deacon shares the story of Kathleen, a 78-year-old Canadian, and how she planned her home renovation to fit her new needs as a senior.

School Streets Toolkit is based on lessons learned from the School Street pilots across the Greater Toronto Area and Kingston, ON; it has more than 25 worksheets, sample templates and resources to help you plan, implement and evaluate your own School Streets Program!

Street Types, a resource that explains three major street rebalancing programs, which are Open Streets, Quiet Streets and School Streets.

Walk Audit Toolkit. Learn how to assess and report on the safety and walkability of a street, intersection or neighbourhood and inspire needed change. The free AARP Walk Audit Tool Kit is available in print or as a PDF download in English or Spanish here.

The Coalition to End Social Isolation engages in various areas to advance its mission, including disseminating research findings, developing and advocating for federal and state legislative and regulatory policy interventions, and leading public awareness events in Washington, D.C., and across the U.S.

Events & Announcements


We are excited to announce the winners of the 2023 Healthy Urban Policy Workshop, designed by 8 80 Cities with funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health and Research - Healthy Cities Research Initiative.
The four participating teams in our Copenhagen Workshop focused on active transportation and public space are Brandon University, Ontario Tech University, Toronto Metropolitan UNiversitu, Guelph's Active Healthy Public Spaces, and the University of Saskatchewan. 

 

Park People Conference 2023 is Happening in Toronto June 21-23, 2023. The Park People Conference is a national event that brings together Canada’s community park group leaders, non-profit organizations, government staff and park professionals.
