A Message From Our Executive Director: Thank you LBJ!

It’s been a heck of a ride, to say the least. On behalf of the whole team at 8 80 Cities, I want to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude for the tremendous contributions of our outgoing Managing Director, Lanrick Bennet Jr. After the recent passing of his father, Lanrick has decided to take some time off to spend more time with his family.

Lanrick joined 8 80 Cities in January of 2020, right on the cusp of a global pandemic that would rock the world. He helped us navigate one of the most difficult times as an organization, always with humility and empathy. I could not imagine anyone else by my side during these last two and a half years. His strong background in the arts and in local community advocacy has inspired us and expanded our thinking in new and exciting ways. Thank you, LBJ.

While we are sad to see him leave the position of Managing Director, we know this is more a “see you around” than goodbye. We look forward to ongoing collaborations with a dear friend, colleague, and champion for equitable cities.

I first experienced the 8 80 concept during a 36hr pop-up demonstration of what a “Complete Street” could look and feel like. My son and I rode our bikes on the precursors to Destination Danforth. After that, I was hooked. My time at 8 80 Cities has been such a wonderful experience. I got to work with fantastic people on meaningful and game-changing projects. I can’t thank this team enough for bringing me into the fold. Cheers, LBJ
